Player’s Award Banquet on Sunday, September 14, 2003 at the
beautiful Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach, California.
JAGS was proud to honor many players for their academic
achievements and tournament accomplishments during the 2002/03
season. Top honors were awarded to Joseph Lopez, Chino
Hills, Calif., and Catherine Pease, Camarillo, Calif.,
as the 2003 Players of the Year. |
Joseph
Lopez,
who will be attending Mt. San Antonio Junior
College in the Fall, 2003, won three boys titles, placed in
the top 5 twice and in the top ten once during the 2002/03
season. His first victory came at the President’s Junior Cup
at Los Serranos Golf Club in Chino Hills, Calif. Playing on
his home course, Joseph scored 73-75-148 even par for his
first JAGS win. His second victory was won at the Memorial
Salute played at the Cypress Golf Club in Los Alamitos, Calif.
Joseph stunned the field by posting a first round 67 leading
the field by 6 shots. He finished the event 1-under par
(67-76-143) to claim the overall championship. His third
Championship was captured at the Esteban Toledo Junior Cup.
This impressive win was at the redesigned Cresta Verde Golf
Club in Corona, Calif., as Joseph scorched the field when he
carded a 4- under par two-day total of 137 (67-70) for the
victory. In addition to being named Player of the Year, Joseph
was named to the 2003 Western All-Star Team and was also
awarded Silver Academic Honors for maintaining his grade point
average between 3.5-3.99 during the 2002/03 school year. |
Catherine
Pease, a freshman and a member of the Women’s Golf
Team at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington this
September, captured two girls championship titles, two top
five finishes and one top ten finish to earn her the Girls
2003 Player of the Year honors. Catherine’s first victory was
at the Shandin Hills Junior Shootout in January where she was
stung by a bee on the 6th hole of day one, posted a first
round of 90, and came back the next day and shot a solid round
of 79 to claim the championship. Her second title was captured
in April at the Marty LaRoche Junior Invitational played at
Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.,
when she carded a 161 taking first place over an impressive
girl’s field. In addition to being named Player of the Year,
Catherine was named to the 2003 Western All-Star Team, was
awarded Silver Academic Honors for maintaining her grade point
average between a 3.5-3.99 during the 2002/03 school year and
was also awarded a $500.00 Academic Scholarship from the JAGS
Academic program. Congratulations Joseph and Catherine
on your outstanding play and academic success during the
