Corona, Calif., -
Joseph Lopez, Chino Hills, Calif., fired a 3 under 137 to capture the
Boys Championship title at the JAGS and The Get A Grip Foundation’s –
“Esteban Toledo Junior Cup”. In the Girls Division, Lizette Sales, Azusa,
Calif., held off Gonzaga University bound Catherine Pease, Camarillo,
Calif., by three strokes to claim her third overall girls title.
The 36-hole event
hosted by Junior Amateur Golf Scholars and The Get A Grip Foundation,
showcased players from
Southern California
at the beautiful redesigned Cresta Verde Golf Club.
Lopez,
took immediate charge posting a 69 in round one of the two-day
tournament. Lopez said, “I was striking the ball great and hit very
few bad shots. My game plan was to stay long, straight and in the
fairway to avoid trouble and high numbers.” Lopez began day two of
the tournament with an 8 stoke advantage over his closest competitor.
“It is great to be leading after day one and have the field chasing
me. My goal was to play steady by staying in the present and not allow
my lead from yesterday’s round to take me out of my game today.” Added
Lopez. Lopez posted 67-70-137 to finish 12 strokes ahead of the field.
This is Lopez’s third JAGS title this season.
Brian Cox, Yorba Linda,
Calif., took home the second place trophy by posting a 75-74-149. Matt
Steinbrick, Cypress, Calif., and Scott Leimkuhler, Newport Coast,
Calif., took third and fourth respectively.
In
the Girls Division, Lizette Sales, Azusa, Calif., (72-86-158) edged out
Catherine Pease, Camarillo, Calif., by 3 strokes for her third JAGS’
victory. Sales said, “I love playing on the JAGS Tour and am so proud
capture my third championship” Sales added, “This course is really long
from the white tees especially with the afternoon winds.” Gonzaga
University fall freshman, Catherine Pease, Camarillo, Calif., placed
second (79-82-161), and Madison Butler, Coto de Caza, Calif., finished
third posting a (81-87-168).
Mark Alvarez, Pomona, Calif., captured his third consecutive win in the
Boys 13-14 year old division by scoring 72-77-149 over Steven Guedea,
Corona, Calif. who placed second with Zachary Chapman, Riverside,
Calif., taking third.
JAGS is proud
to have teamed up with The Get A Grip Foundation to host the first
annual Esteban Toledo Junior Cup at Cresta Verde Golf Club in Corona,

a Grip Foundation.
The JAGS Tour is a year-round junior golf program that specializes in
nationally-ranked, two-day (36-hole) no cut junior tournaments for boys
and girls ages 13-18 years old. Membership is not required; however,
members pay lower tournament fees and have priority entry. JAGS is a
