LOPEZ SCORCHES THE FIELD TO CLAIM
HIS THIRD JAGS TITLE

Corona, Calif., - Joseph Lopez, Chino Hills, Calif., fired a 3 under 137 to capture the Boys Championship title at the JAGS and The Get A Grip Foundation’s – “Esteban Toledo Junior Cup”.  In the Girls Division, Lizette Sales, Azusa, Calif., held off Gonzaga University bound Catherine Pease, Camarillo, Calif., by three strokes to claim her third overall girls title.

The 36-hole event hosted by Junior Amateur Golf Scholars and The Get A Grip Foundation, showcased players from Southern California at the beautiful redesigned Cresta Verde Golf Club.

Lopez, took immediate charge posting a 69 in round one of the two-day tournament.  Lopez said,  “I was striking the ball great and hit very few bad shots.  My game plan was to stay long, straight and in the fairway to avoid trouble and high numbers.”   Lopez began day two of the tournament with an 8 stoke advantage over his closest competitor.  “It is great to be leading after day one and have the field chasing me.  My goal was to play steady by staying in the present and not allow my lead from yesterday’s round to take me out of my game today.”  Added Lopez.  Lopez posted 67-70-137 to finish 12 strokes ahead of the field. This is Lopez’s third JAGS title this season.

Brian Cox, Yorba Linda, Calif., took home the second place trophy by posting a 75-74-149.  Matt Steinbrick, Cypress, Calif., and Scott Leimkuhler, Newport Coast, Calif., took third and fourth respectively.

In the Girls Division, Lizette Sales, Azusa, Calif., (72-86-158) edged out Catherine Pease, Camarillo, Calif., by 3 strokes for her third JAGS’ victory.   Sales said, “I love playing on the JAGS Tour and am so proud capture my third championship” Sales added, “This course is really long from the white tees especially with the afternoon winds.”  Gonzaga University fall freshman, Catherine Pease, Camarillo, Calif., placed second (79-82-161), and Madison Butler, Coto de Caza, Calif., finished third posting a (81-87-168).
