Fullerton,
California - Junior Amateur Golf Scholars (JAGS)
conducted the second California Orange County Junior Golf
Championship at the beautiful hilly and difficult Coyote Hills Golf
Club in Fullerton, California during spring break. JAGS’
newcomers Chris Cho, San Diego, Calif., and Grace Chung, La Habra,
Calif., each claimed their first JAGS victory titles.

Cho shot even par 70
on day one in his round that included three birdies on the four par
3’s. Cho said, “I played very steady and just tried to hit fairways
and greens and thought the pin locations were very difficult.”
Stephen Hawk, Holtville, Calif., was only 2 back followed by Tyler
Weworski, Carlsbad, Calif., 75, Kyle Warren, Los Alamitos, Calif.,
76. Kyle Valley, Irvine, Calif. and Chad McCurdy, Thousand Oaks,
Calif., were tied at 77 with Lawrence Hsu, West Covina, at 78.
Round two continued
under ideal playing conditions with a variable wind and improved pin
locations. Several players made a run at the leader but were unable
to catch him as Cho posted 70-77-147 for a two shot victory over
Weworski 75-74-149. Dan Geis , El Segundo, Calif., shot the low
round of the day, posting a 1-over 71 capturing third with a final
score of 152 while Warren hung on to take fourth at 153. Hsu and
Hawk tied for fifth at 154 followed by McCurdy at 157. Eight place
went to Connor Fehmel of Agoura Hills at 158, while Brad Bossenbroek
from La Mesa, Calif., and Valley tied for ninth at 160.
The girls division
winner, Grace Chung posted a second day 1-under 69 for a two-day
total of 144, nine better than Lee Lopez, Whittier, Calif., who took
second at 153. Elsie Walker, San Clemente, Calif., placed third at
160 followed by Angela Villela, Santa Clarita, Calif., taking fourth
at 162. Allison Wing, Irvine, Calif., and Joella Zapanta,
Fullerton, Calif., Alana Erlandson, Bermuda Dunes, Calif,.
Jacqueline Struck, Coto de Caza, Calif., Madison Butler, Coto de
Caza, Calif., and Allison Ek, Cypress, Calif., were top ten
finishers.
Junior Amateur Golf
Scholars is a 501 C 3 non-profit public benefit organization that
provides junior golfers the opportunity to play golf, earn college
scholarships and learn the true meaning and benefits of the sport.
