TITLES AT ROSE BOWL JUNIOR CLASSIC |

Pasadena, Calif. –
Junior Amateur Golf Scholars, a non-profit organization hosted the
2003 Rose Bowl Junior Classic on December 29-30, 2003.
On a cold and windy
Monday under a threat of rain, 48 boys and girls set out to conquer
the CW Koiner “big” course at Brookside in Pasadena while bands
tuned up and others participating in the Rose Bowl festivities
practiced and looked on.
In the Boys 15-18
division, JAGS newcomer Albert Lee of Los Angeles, CA ignored
the harsh conditions and fired a one over 73 to take a slim 1 shot
lead over his nearest competitors Micah Burke of Los Angeles, CA and
Dane Jensen of Pleasant Grove, Utah. Five back with 78s were
Bradley Wyatt of La Verne, Andy Kim of Laguna Niguel and Christopher
Heneley of Altadena, CA. Nick Baratelle of Cypress, CA and Jeff
White of Duarte, CA shot 79 to round out those players breaking 80
in the first round. Round two began with a weather forecast of 3 to
4 inches of rain that thankfully never materialized. It did remain
cool and breezy throughout the round. Lee started slowly and was 6
over at the turn while Burke was only 2 over and led Lee by 3 shots
in the tournament! Dane remained 1 back of Lee at the turn.
Baratelle and Heneley also picked up strokes on the leader and at
the end of 27 holes, 6 players were within two strokes of each
other. Lee played the back 9 at 1 under to finish the day at 77
for a total of 150. Lee bested Baratelle by 4 who finished in 2nd
at 154. Burke and Heneley both finished at 155 tied for 3rd.
Jason D’Amore was 5th at 156. Wyatt finished 6th
at 157. Jeremy Harris of El Dorado Hills, CA was 7th
while Jensen and Kim finished 8th and 9th
respectively. Christopher John Ancheta of Lancaster, CA was 10th.
In the Girls
division, Kristin Ingram of Pasadena, CA defended her title from
2002 Rose Bowl Junior Classic as she overcame the cold windy
conditions and shivered into 1st place for day one with a
fine 83 on the demanding Brookside course. Alyson Golditch of
Northridge, CA, was second, six shots back and Allison Wing of
Irvine, CA in third. Day two saw Ingram off to a jittery start and
was 5 over for the day after three holes. She quickly refocused on
her game and played the next 15 holes 1 under par finishing with the
low round of the day at 79 for a total of 162 for 1st
place. Golditch finished in a tie for 2nd with Keaton
Kim of Buena Park, CA and Wing was 4th. Fifth place went
to Kristin Medlin of Garden Grove, CA and sixth was captured by
Stephanie Hu of Cerritos, CA. Kayleigh Horn of Newport Beach, CA
finished 7th and Marissa Patterson of San Clemente, CA
was 8th. Tara Hale of Bell Canyon, CA finished in the
top 10 at 9th.
The 13-14 Boys
division, playing from the middle tees, saw newcomer James
Moseley of Arcadia, CA. one week away from his 15th
birthday, ran away from the field with a first round 76. Five shots
back were Bodin Bhanaraksa of Chino, CA and Brett Robertson of
Tustin, CA. Moseley continued his steady play on day two and
finished at 153 in 1st. Bodin took 2nd and
Adrian Guy of Pasadena, CA was 3rd. Michael Sato of
Aiea, HI took 4th. Eric Brokop, Cypress, CA and
Robertson finished tied for 5th. Aaron Smith of
Westlake Village, CA was 7th. Mason Davis of Ewa Beach,
HI was 8th followed by Miles Thorson of Westlake Village,
CA and Kevin Lim of La Canada, CA at 9th and 10th
respectively.
