POST SUB-PAR ROUND
TO CLAIM TITLES AT THE CREEK

Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.,  WOW!  Sub-par winners, a Hole-In-One, and perfect weather highlighted the two-day 5TH annual Marty LaRoche Junior Cup at Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.  Matthew Giles from Sidney, Australia won the Boys’s division with a two-day total of 136, 8-under par and the Girl’s division was won by Tarah Taylor, Mission Viejo, Calif., who finished at 142, 2-under par.

 

Giles, from Australia is visiting the U.S. to compete in Junior World in mid-July was excited to play the JAGS Tour at Tijeras Creek Golf Club, on June 28-29, 2005 during his visit.  His 8-under 36-hole score set a new JAGS scoring record at the Creek giving him a victory to take with him to Junior World.  Giles said, “The JAGS Tour is run top notch, with officials always available for rulings, water and snacks during each round.  I am very happy to have been given the opportunity to play with JAGS and I plan on joining them again next year and hope to bring more players from Australia with me.”  Andrew Roque, Monterey Park, Calif., took 2nd at even par 144.  Dustin Rhone, Culver City, Calif., and Tom Moore, Huntington Beach, Calif., finished 3-over at 147 to tie for 3rd.  Kevin Doyle, Coto de Caza, Calif., and Joel Gillin, Huntington Beach, Calif. tied for 5th .   Connor Fehmel, Agoura Hills, Calif., placed 7th, Tyler Michaelis, Coto de Caza, Calif., placed  8th , Eric Queathem from Cody, WY took 9th and Brandon Van Goethen, Huntington Beach, Calif., was 10th to round off the top finishers in the Boy’s division.

 

Cory Bacon, Cypress, Calif., scored his first Hole-In-One at the par-3, 167 yd, sixteenth hole.  He used a six iron for the shot that was witnessed by his group and his father who was watching his son play.  Way to go Cory!

 

Mission Viejo, Calif., resident Tarah Taylor ran away from the field on day two to win by 11 shots over 2nd place finisher, Jacqueline Struck, Coto de Caza, Calif.  Tarah said, “I have been working very hard on my game these last few months and it is so exciting to see my hard work pay off and win my first JAGS tournament.  I have been trying to win this specific tournament for four years and finally everything came together for the victory and it feels really great!”  Third place went to Katie McKitterick, Corona del Mar, Calif., and 4th went to newcomer, Adriana Ortencio, Seal Beach, Calif. Michelle Benninghoven, Laguna Niguel, Calif., placed 5th followed by more newcomers to the JAGS Tour, Samantha Roberts, Mission Viejo, Calif., taking 6th and Dana Wooten from Irvine, Calif., placing 7th.  Michelle Nishida, Torrance, Calif., finished at 8th place in the Girl’s division.

 

JAGS next two day tournament will be held at California County Club (private)  in Whittier, California, July 21 and 22, 2005.  This 36 hole tournament is nationally ranked by Junior Golf Scoreboard and the results are watched by National and Regional junior golf programs, and college coaches throughout the US.  Players need not be members of JAGS to participate, although JAGS members tournament fees are lower.  The FIRST JAGS FUNDRAISER will also be played at California Country Club on Monday July 25  Membership and tournament information can be found at www.jagstour.com.

 

August 9 & 10, 2005 the JAGSTOUR returns to Cresta Verde in Corona, CA..  Plan to come and play in these events and sign up now.
