San Juan Capistrano, California - Junior Amateur Golf
Scholars (JAGS) conducted the Junior Masters 36 hole golf tournament on
November 13 & 14, 2004 for juniors from Arizona and California on the
demanding and hilly San Juan Hills Golf course under good conditions.
Lawrence Hsu, West Covina, Calif., carded a
4-over par, (146) to claim his first JAGS victory over Philip Chian,
Covina, Calif., and Abraham Lee, La Canada Flintridge, Calif., who
finished second and third respectively. Hsu credited his victory to
his steady play and patience during the rounds on the very quick greens
and narrow fairways. Hsu said, “My putting really helped me to stay
low for both rounds and it was so important to stay below the hole on
these fast greens. Tain Lee, San Juan Capistrano, Calif., took fourth,
Blake Shinoda, Santa Ana, Calif. and Christopher John G. Ancheta,
Lancaster, Calif., tied for fifth. Ryan Boyker, Long Beach, Calif.,
placed 7th and Michael Drake, Riverside, Calif., 8th, Alex Park,
Mission Viejo, Calif., 9th, Tom Moore, Huntington Beach, Calif., and
Patrick Techakanokboon, Cerritos, Calif., tied for 10th.
Lizette Salas, Azusa, Calif., also carded
a 4-over par, 146 to capture her first victory this season and her
fifth over-all victory on the JAGS Tour. Rachel Morris, Carlsbad,
Calif., placed second and new comer to the JAGS Tour Veronica Valerio,
Temecula, Calif., finished third. Salas credits her win to really
paying attention to her course management and playing within herself on
this tricky course with quick greens. Salas said, “I did everything to
stay below the hole and keep my putting stokes solid. These greens are
really fast and if you hit it a little too firm, it will roll off the
green.” Salas and many players in the Girls Division used this event
as a warm up for the CIF-SS WSCGA Championship being held the next day
in Murietta, Calif.
JAGS December two day tournament will be held at
Brookside Golf Course, (next to the Rose Bowl) in Pasadena on December
27 -28, 2004. This popular tournament fills quickly and entries should
be submitted by December 1 to ensure acceptance. Players need not be
members of JAGS to participate, although member’s tournament fees are
lower. Membership and tournament information can be found at
www.jagstour.com. On January 16 & 17, 2005, JAGS returns to
Shandin Hills for the first event of the New Year. |
